One of the most remarkable natural events during this period is the Pacific herring spawn along nearby shorelines. During the spawn, seabirds, marine mammals, and other wildlife gather in large numbers to feed, creating an incredible spectacle for nature observers.

Starting in March, various adventure races take place in the Comox Valley, many of which are based out of the Cumberland Community Forest.

Winter in Cumberland is quieter but culturally rich. The Woodstove Music Festival brings musicians from across Western Canada to perform throughout the village in intimate venues. Cafés and restaurants remain lively gathering spaces during the cooler months.
Although Winter offers a more peaceful time to explore trails around the village, nordic and alpine adventures continue, as Mt. Washington and Strathcona park trails open up for skiers and snowboarders.
